Living on a boat in the depths of winter is something quite special ! its actually no different to a house if the wood burner is on and you stoke it with coal before bed then you will stay cozy and warm all night long ; underfloor heating also adds to the toasty feel but if your worried just bring your slippers !
Rainbow's End is moored on a private mooring which the general public cant walk past (other than the opposite side of the canal). The mooring is surrounded by bushes and trees so in summer is completely private while still allowing fantastic views up the canal or over the fields.
Often a popular question from guests given that sometimes you may have special night time visitors ! Don't worry its only a family of three otters who fish and play along side the boat during colder weather. The king fisher may also make an appearance on the front of the boat. There are owls, deer in the field opposite early morning, a mink who lives under the shed sometimes makes an appearance, a family of squirrels, foxes, a heron, dragon flies in summer, toads, hedgehogs, a pair of clumsy fat wood pigeons live in the tree next to the boat, a huge selection of fish visible in the height of summer, a pair of wren's living in the wood store, a wood pecker is often heard doing ….well wood pecker stuff, a local cat may come to call and a pair of swans live in front of the boat and are almost daily visitors just like the ducks who come for your early morning toast crusts.
Rainbow's End is offered to guests as static permanently moored accommodation and as such is not offered to guests as a self drive hire boat. Trust me, If your aim is for a relaxing romantic getaway then this could be the place for you without the hassle of locks and trying to maneuver this huge boat around the canal network.
Many of our guests have friends and family who live local to Rainbows End and having daytime visitors is no problem. the only consideration we ask guests to me mindful of, is we can only offer one parking space with the boat as the mooring is privately owned by the Jennings family so any visitors would have to park by the locks and walk to the boat; it only takes about 3 minutes. We also ask that any expected visitors are passed on to us so we can let the family know .No overnight visitors are permitted and all visitors are the responsibility of the principal booking guest.
At Rainbow's End we want to offer everyone the best possible experience and have hosted guests with limited mobility, severe medical conditions and even guests who are blind. The only consideration we ask guests to note is, to get to the mooring there are a flight of large uneven stone steps, a metal ramp to the front door and then five standard steps down in to the boat. If these would prove to be a problem then please give me a call to discuss how we may be able to accommodate your needs.
(due to the physical location and terrain of the mooring there is no other means of accessing the boat)
Rainbow's End holds 1 ton of fresh good old Yorkshire Water in two stainless steel water tanks so yes you can.
You haven't gone on holiday to do washing and ironing, but if you really want to there's a washing machine, tumble dryer , ironing board with iron and by request an outdoor washing line; and yes there's washing liquid and softener for you to use.
Don't worry its a proper flushing toilet which is just like any other toilet, the only difference is that you can't put anything down it such as dental floss, wet wipes, sanitary product etc. or it will stop it working so when I come to sort it out I always need a labourer.........
Because Rainbow's End is a wide beam boat with a flat bottom you wont really notice much movement at all. In high winds or when other boats sail past she moves forwards and backwards slightly and if its stormy and you look out of the window you can sometimes feel like your moving if you look at the water but most of the time you shouldn't notice any real movement.
Bikes are a great way to explore the local area and nip out to the shops for that extra bag of crisps or bottle of wine . Guests are free to bring bikes on their stay however there is nowhere to lock them away on the mooring and as such we are unable to accept any responsibility for theft or damage of guests bikes .Many guest leave them in their vehicles for security or chain them together next to the decking.
Fishing from the mooring is no problem we have two business fishing permits from Saltire angling association for guests to use in conjunction with guests own standard rod license.
Or if your in to river fishing I can arrange access to the river next to the boat to which we have private fishing rights .
We don't operate a self check in "lock box" business. All guests will be met at the boat and shown around and given a full handover of Rainbow's End so as to ensure guests have the best possible experience and stress free stay. check in times are between 16.00 and 20.00 and check out is at 11.00 on the day of departure ; changes to check in and check out times may be possible depending on other bookings and availability.
